Koh Samui, located off the east coast in southern Thailand in the Gulf of Siam, is the largest island of an archipelago with more than 80 but most unoccupied in the Marine National Park Angthong (or ball).
With an area of 250 square kilometers, is the third largest island in the Kingdom after Phuket and Koh Chang. The mainland city nearest Suratthani is about 60 km to the west. "Koh" means "island" in Thai.
It was discovered by the first "tourists" in the early 70's, which travelers should be limited only huts without electricity and running water, and a population who lived mainly from fishing and coconut plantations. Currently, Koh Samui still sends more than 2 million coconuts per month in Bangkok.
Tropical island lined with coconut trees and white sand beaches, Samui is connected several times a day by boats and aircraft. It is part of the province of Suratthani.
Within two decades, Samui has become a destination of choice in Asia. Today, Samui has established a solid reputation of small tropical paradise with its visitors.
Housing for all budgets, a local food delicious and varied (sometimes a little spicy ...), abundant tropical vegetation, waterfalls, idyllic beaches, many Buddhist temples, stroll motorcycle or car, trek to the island, a friendly population, a mix that makes it a destination for all tastes.

The climate is very pleasant throughout the year, with temperatures ranging between 25 and 34 degrees Celsius.
There are three seasons, the hot season from February to May, the rainy season from late September to November and "cool" season which runs from October to January. From February to October, he averaged 32 to 38 degrees, but from July to September, there may be some rain showers, but only a few hours.

The rainy season has resulted in fact often a few showers "refreshing" followed by the return of the sun.
The tropical climate is very wet throughout the year, but Samui is still a nice cool sea breeze coming of Golf.
In conclusion, if you like the sun and you bear the heat, come from February to May! It is very rare rain ...
If you want more details about the weather here!

Koh Samui has a population of 47'874 Thai (in 2006) registered at city hall, but they feel almost double counting all workers from other regions of Thailand.

The main religion is Buddhism with a minority of Muslims, especially concentrated in the village of Hua Thanon and around Nathon. There is also a small population of Chinese.

Life is relaxing Samui, Thai people are passive in nature and very patient and visitors feel at ease. The smile is a universal language even though sometimes we have some difficulties to understand. As against in hotels, there is always staff who can help you in English and sometimes even with a few words of French!
If you enter a temple or a house, it is customary to leave your shoes at the entrance, also does not show people the finger is not polite.
When you go visit Buddhist monuments, make sure you dress appropriately, try to avoid you stroll through the temples in bathing costume, for example, although in general they are quite tolerant. The short pants no problem in principle in the temples of the island.
